What my music video
was about.
My Music Video was based around a training routine. The video consisted of someone training in martial arts/karate. It has been constructed by using short video footage of the actor training as well as images related to martial arts and karate, I used a variety of images. Each image I used was related to martial arts in some way or form. I used images of martial art kicks punches and people training. The music track I chose to use is ‘you’re the best around’ by Joe Esposito taken from the film Karate kid. I tried to use un-natural training equipment. For example. I have him doing push ups on the sea wall and running up flat stairs to build stamina.

What went well?
I think that the music video I produced had some good points as well as some problems. The transactions between the clips and images make it seem livelier and not too dull. I also think that the video clips themselves are not too bad and have given it the feel I wanted. I think that the slow motion I used gave the video clips a more interesting look and it matched the part of the track they appear on. I think that the locations I used are good because it made it seem more realistic. As it was a real person training in un-natural areas. Usually you would think someone would go to the gym to train. But he goes outside e.g.: he runs through a field, does push ups on the sea wall and trains in his back garden. In terms of editing techniques I was able to match specific film clips with the beat and pace of the song. The shots I used were in time to the beat of music creating a past paced feel.

What didn’t go well?
I should have booked out the equipment beforehand. Because I didn’t manage my time properly I had little time to produce and film my music video. This gave me an even shorter time period to edit my music video in pre-production. Because of my time constraints I didn’t have enough time to edit my video because of this I rushed the video slightly making it not a good as it could have been. It also meant I had to film the video quickly not getting the footage I wanted and having to improvise by using images. What also didn’t help was my first actor pulled out of the production on the day of the filming. This meant I had to think fast and call around to find a new actor. This also meant all the preparation I had done with the first actor had to be scraped and some of it was reformed to fit into the new video I had to make.
