Short film idea and proposal

Act 1 - equilibrium (beginning)

Sergent Castiel Santiago
He is extremely lucky, he has never been shot and always survives a mission.
Lives alone and leads a life of alcohol and depression, within the army. He also has a sad past that he does not talk about even though many people have tried to get him to.

Modern day, in the front plaza of a college. Last squad member left, rest of the squad is dead, their goal is to kill the enemy leader.

Act 2 - Conflict (problem)
Out numbered and almost out of ammo, There are three of them and he is the only member of his squad left alive.

Act 3 - resolution (ending)
He wins by killing the enemy soldiers, however he gets shot and does not realise until the end of the fight, the shot is critical and he falls to the floor smiling, knowing his time of fighting has come to an end.

The proposal.

The purpose of the proposal is to sell the idea of the film.

It also has to explain the concept.
It should make the short film sound interesting.
Last of all it should sound achievable, and able to make.

What to include.

  • Your name, contact details and company name.
  • A working title for the project
  • The intended audience.
  • Brief explanation of the concept.
  • Brief description of the main sequences and characters.
  • Names of any other major participants in the project.
  • Any major technical or stylistic considerations (e.g a particular visual style, or special effect how sound will be implied etc)

Dear Sir or Madam.

I am writing to ask if you will buy the script of my short film 'The Last Soldier.'

The audience is 18 and above as it is contains strong language and violence.

The concept is this. A squad of S.A.S soldiers is sent into a forest to dispatch a unit of mercenaries who tried to assassinate a member of the royal family. The squad is wiped out and only on man survives, he is called Castiel Santiago. He defeats the remaining mercenaries but at the end he dies along with them, happy that he achieved his squads goal and for avenging their deaths.

The first act will show the world we live in, it is a modern setting with very little new technology. It will show the main character and his squad.
The second act will so the fight scene as the two forces engage in a forest. it will show that Castiel is the last member left and the death of his squad mates.
The third act will show Castiel winning the fight, he is low on ammunition, he kills the enemy leader, but realises he has been shot and dies at the end of the film.

Thank you for reading my proposal. I hope to hear back from you soon.

Gladiator.

In the first shot of the film, it shows us an extreme close up on a man's left hand, it then focuses in on the wedding ring he is wearing. His hand is gently touching the top of the wheat in the field he is walking through. The haunting music leads the audience to believe he could be in heaven, or in a dream

The shot after that is a medium close up of a roman general. He face is looking at the ground and the music changes to a darker tone. He then looks up and sees a robin on a dead branch of a tree. He goes to turn away, but looks back at the robin as it flies off. He smirks to himself as if he is saying the robin is lucky and that it can just fly away from the battle and he is stuck there in the fight yet to come.

It then goes into a establishing shot, giving us a view of the roman army, showing us they are ready to fight and well organised. The music picks up and sounds more heroic, making us believe the romans are the heroes in this fight, even though they are the invaders.

The next shot is a close up of an elderly man’s face, he is wearing more elegant clothing and robes, showing us he is more important than the normal troops. His expression is one of worry. This could make the audience think he does not believe they may win this fight.

When the general is addressing his troops who are hidden in the woods, he gives a speech to keep up their moral, he says “and if you find yourselves alone, in green fields with the sun on your face, then you are in Elysium and you are already dead” The men laugh at this. It is a form of very black humor and because of this it raises moral. This is shot, with a wide establishing shot, within a dense woodland, but with light beaming in through the trees. This brings back the feeling of heaven and hell, making the audience believe that there is a light at the end of this battle.

As the romans start the attack, the music lifts again, making feel as if they are the heroes. The music reminds us of pirates of the Caribbean because of it up beat and energetic tune. Tis makes the audience think that the romans are coming to the rescue and that the barbarians are the villains.

At the end of the battle, the music slows down and it goes into slow motion. This makes us feel as if we are there, and we had just won the battle. It then goes to the elderly man again and he takes a deep sigh. This leads us to think that he is happy it has all ended now, and after 12 years of fighting, everything will be peaceful.

Film budget

When making a film you would need to pay for many things, however if you have a low budget there are ways around paying.

*Costumes, one way to save money on this would be to use your own clothes or charity shop and jumble sales.

*Equipment, a way around this is to borrow or use your own cameras and computers to edit and cut the film.

*Actors, a way to cut costs on this is to ask for volantears, or if you have friends who can act, ask them to take part.

*Crew wages, and finding the crew. To get around this you could ask friends who know how to use the equipment and not have to pay them.

*Locations, To get around this, if you know anywhere that you would not need to ask permission for eg: your bedroom, or your house, then there is no need to pay for a location.

Hansel and Gretel

Hansel and Gretel.
My re creation.

Hansel and Gretel could be turned into a documentary from the witches point of view. Telling us that she was forced to become a witch and every time she tried to do something right, it went horribly wrong. How she escaped the clutches of the evil Hansel and Gretel and how she wishes to just live a normal life again.

Turbo charged log line.
The actual film.

Hansel and Gretel. When a witch takes the mother and father away from these two young heroes, they set out on an epic adventure to hunt down and take their revenge all these years later.

On the verge of an impossibility of a world over run with witches, a brother and sister with a traumatic past, must fight their way to the grand black witch's lair to stop this from happening. However, when Hansel finds out his 'love' is a witch, things become complicated and the duo must realise that not all witches are evil and to stop the witches from winning, they must trust in the help of another witch.

Pre Production

Stage 1) Pre Production. This is when you prepare for the film before you start to shoot it. Eg: finding the location, the people who have the job of finding the location to shoot a film are called location scouts. Another thing you must do, is to find the actors, the people who are tasked with this are often called casting directors. You should also buy and prepare your equipment.

Stage 2) This is the production of the film. In this you will need to focus on the techniques you will use for the camera, so what angles you will use e.g: Wide angles to capture the whole picture, or maybe you will use high angles to make characters look small. Also within the production you will set up your lighting and morph it to how you think it suits best. You may also wish to use special effects like makeup or a monster mask for example.

Stage 3) The post production. This is the time to cut and edit your scenes, you will want to cut the scenes you may not wish to use to shorten the film. You might also want to put sound in there now as well, for a theme or sound track.

What this film would of needed to be able to film in the street.

*It would need to find the central location for the film.
*The director will need to fill out a location release form, and a actor release form so that they can film within that area and so people within the area who might walk past your shooting have given their consent for their face to be shown.
*They would need to of written the scrip and put stage directions so they know when to turn the signs or when to walk on and off.
*They must also find a suitable location for the film, one that joins nicely with the script.
*They will need to have got all their props they will need for the film.
*They will also need to make sure they have continuity of costume.
*They should also of worked out their budget to spent on the film.
Perseverance.

These are two poster of movies that are relevant to my movie idea Perseverance.

I would make my poster like this, because it has what look like the man characters on the poster, this would give possible viewers a idea who the main characters are.

This is my scrip for the opening of a fake small horror movie.
