Getting it made.

As a writer it would be a good idea to have a agent. (Literary Agent)
An agent is someone who gets/makes business deals on the behalf of another. This is good because it means you can get more writing done while your agent is out there finding buyers for your script or a new script for you to work on.

Yes you do want an agent
Deals are taken more seriously if it comes through an agent. As it is seen that you keen business

However you have to pay them 10-20% of your earnings.
Agents mostly chase the big money jobs as that is where the money is made.
Can stop smaller and less known writers from getting scrips/books published.

Commissioning editor.
Alan Tyler. Responsible for: Out of London Entertainment Commissioning
Commissioning editors are like buyers, they search for ideas, proposals and products to buy for the BBC or the company they work for and then get it send on to a producer who can take it further.
E-commissioning, you can create an account and submit your proposal instead of acing to book appointments.

Warner brothers. Greenlit
A producer decides if your proposal is accepted or not. They are answerable to the president of creative development. The president of creative development will change every now and then. One might want to make more romantic movies where as the new one might say we are focusing on actions movies now.

Independent company. How involved will i be. Worried about Error and Omissions insurance

When a script is bought or the idea is accepted. The writer is sometimes given full access and ability to see and help re-write their script should it need to be changed. George Lucus while making the prequels of Star Wars was able to give the final decision on any redraft of his script.

Screenwriters and Producer work together to add to and develop the script to make it more dramatic. They do not have to show it to the writer.

Also if a contract is made and in the contract it states the writer has no say on the final draft of the script.

Errors and Omissions insurance is there incase you infringe on someone else's copyright it is there to help protect you from a lawsuit. Meaning the insurance company will take it.
