Single camera drama pre production.

I have two ideas for a single camera drama. Fiary entry.

Idea 1)  I have been working on a zombie Action/mild horror production. I already have a script for this, as well as a good plan. I have the characters made all the way down to their personalities and back stories.

The down side to this production is i will have only a small amount of time to find the costume as well as the right location to film it in.

Idea 2) My second idea, was to do a film about two people going to a larp (Live action role play) Event. I have the contacts as well as the costume and location for this production, however i do not have a script or characters.

Diary entry 2
I have gone with the idea 1. I have already found and confirmed two actors. I have a location and have booked a camera ready for next weekend when i film my footage. I have started my proposal and my fact file. All of my pre production will be on this page. I found after effects good and it could potentially be useful, but at this point i don't know how i would use it for my production. It is going to be an existential ending where the male character Chris will have to choose between a family party, or his up coming L.A.R.P event.

Larp (Live action role-play)

Larp is a hobbie that many people do. It can range from a fantasy setting with elves and orcs, giants and goblins, much like Tolkiens Middle Earth in Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit. Or it can be a historical period in time. Set in the Roman Epire, or the Second World War.

larp gives people an escape from the real world.

Some media representations of larp.
The film role models. This shows larp as a hobby in which  the people who take part are seen to be socially awkward as well as the steriotype look of a 'geek'

Proposal.

Company name. Blue Lion Media

Dear Sir or Madam.

I am writing to ask if you will buy the script of my short film 'LARPERS'

The audience is 12 and above as it is contains mild fantasy violence with no blood or gore and one use of strong language.

The concept is this. A couple have a hobby know as L.A.R.P (Live action role play) one is good at balancing the real world with the ‘fantasy’ world they go to. However the Male in the couple finds it difficult to balance the two and encounters a problem the night before the event.

The first act will show Chris and Fiona packing for the event. It will show the problem Chris is faced with and then them going to/setting up at the event.
The second act will show them both having fun and a good time at the event itself. However it will be dropping hints that something is eating Chris up inside.
The third act will show them on the Sunday evening getting ready for the big fight at the end of the event. This is when Chris makes his decision to go to his family party instead and just vanishes from the field.

Thank you for reading my proposal. I hope to hear back from you soon.

Joshua Bates.

Location Race

When I first come out with the idea to film it about the group that I do, Saxe and Sorcery, I knew that I already had a set location that I would have to film in which was Cherrywood scout campsite. After I thought more about what I could do I decided that I could film one or two of the big people there Fiona and Chris.

Cherrywood campsite is one of the places that I will be filming. Even though I am filming there I didn’t choose the location, it is still one that I am using. This is the location that the group normally go to for their events, so because I want to get footage that would look good on screen I decided to there to film because they are comfortable with that place and because I want to get lots of different shots and angles and because it would look good on screens.
Cherrywood is located in Purfleet, Essex on Arterial road.

The next place that I was going to film is one of the people I am going to films house. Their house is in Kent, because of many different reasons I am not going to say where about or give a picture. In this location I am going to film them getting ready for the weekend ahead and then I will also be filming in the car on the way to the event. Most of the filming will be done in Cherrywood because that is where all the important things are going to be filmed.

Risk assessment

There were a lot of things I had to consider to be hazardous to us or the equipment involved on the days that I will be shooting.

One of the first things we had to take into consideration, even before I sorted out the locations, was some of the equipment that the group (Seaxe and Sorcery) used for example their weapons. Even though the weapons are foam they can still be dangerous, if someone was hitting too hard or even if they were too close to the camera and went to hit someone they could hit the camera.

One of the next things I had to thing about was the overnight stay in tents, because I will be filming the group at one of their weekend events, I would have to be careful of the equipment overnight. I am planning to use the storm hut, which they have there, to store the equipment in overnight. This is the safer option because with a tent if it’s too close to the sides and it rains the equipment will get wet and also the condensation of the tent can get it wet and break the equipment. The storm hut is a good idea because the stuff will be dry and because the people that go in the storm hut are very responsible and they won’t break it.

The next thing that I had to take into consideration was the ground of Cherrywood, because even without taking in the weather conditions it was still dangerous because of the hills and rabbit holes.

The last thing I have to be careful with is the weather, because if the weather turns from the worst and rains I won’t be able to take the camera out and also if it has been raining before the event the ground will be slippery and that would be a risk to the players.
